I had my Itunes playing last night while working on an illustration project when the Bangles cover of “Hazy Shade of Winter” started playing. Yeah yeah laugh it up if you want but I like the Bangles. Oh and before you go casting stones at least I can say I still like my bands from the 80′s such as the Bangles, REM, U2 etc. Even when I was 12 I had enough sense to know that MC Hammer sucked. But I digress.
I will admit though my main reason for liking the Bangles was Susanna Hoffs. Susanna was awesome not only was she beautiful but she had has a kickass voice. Her voice reminds me of Stevie Nicks, but with Susanna you don’t have deal with all the drugs, obesity, co-dependence, and whoring around that comes with Stevie Nicks.
Also for those of you who don’t know Susanna Hoffs was the first woman I ever fell madly in love with. Sadly our ages and distance pulled us apart. You see I was 12 living with my parents in North Carolina and she was 28 living in California; the star of a successful band. While she was touring the country I was at home lying on my bed drawing pictures of her and I holding hands beside a rainbow. In the end I think it was the lack of communication that ultimately destroyed the relationship.
So when I heard that song a flood of memories were unleashed. I then decided to look up Susanna and see what she has been up to and what she looks like now. Good lord! What the hell?! Has she aged at all? Does time not affect her? Now I don’t want to say Susanna Hoffs isn’t human but clearly Susanna Hoffs isn’t human! She is 49! In woman years that’s like…hold on one second…yeah that’s like 261 in man years!
Overall it’s just nice to know that sometimes you go back and that sometimes things are just as good as you remember. Unlike say the Thundercats.
Anyway, obviously things have been going ok for her and she collaborated with Matthew Sweet on a cover album called Sid and Susie. This is super cool in my book because I also really dig Matthew but damn looks like Matt has kind of…well…gotten bigger? Anyway I like Matthew too much to say anything mean so I will leave it at that.
