Figure Drawing, Contest, & You

Greetings all, just thought I would drop in and upload a few sketches and studies. First up is a sketchbook doodle of a witch I did last night whilst (that’s right I said whilst) watching the History channel. I was going to make a joke and say it was an artistic interpretation of my gal with PMS, but wisely thought better of it. Or did I? Muwhahahahaha!

The other drawings below are studies from my figure drawing session at the Charlotte Art League over the weekend. I’m doing my best to do as much figure drawing as I can lately, because I’ve noticed that my confidence has been growing as a result. I’m a firm believer that confidence is one of the most important attributes that an artist can possess because if you approach a piece in a timid uncertain manner, the piece will reflect it.

I’m also a firm believer that everyone reading this should subscribe right now to this blog. You see one of the other most important things an artist can have is fans. Lots and lots of fans, preferably hot busty fans with lots of money.

Oh also don’t forget about my super awesome sketch card giveaway Twitter contest…uh…contest. Click here for full details and click here to follow me on Twitter, which is one of the contest requirements.

Figure Drawing Session from 3-25-10

Greetings everyone! I recently discovered another figure group in Charlotte NC that I have been attending. This class is the third one that I have come across in the last couple months. Its nuts! I’m like a killer robot from the future whose sole purpose is the find sketch groups. I can’t be reasoned with and I can’t be stopped.

Anyway it was a really fun session, so if you get a chance be sure to drop in sometime. The session is from 6:30 to 9:00 pm every Thursday at The Arthouse 3103 Cullman Ave. Charlotte, NC. Hope to see you there.

Figure Drawing sketches – Feel the excitement

Greetings all! Hope everyone is doing well. Did everyone have a wonderful weekend? You did? Ok….uh huh. Yeah yeah that’s great, whatever. Look let’s not lose focus here people. Remember this blog is about yours truly. Not you. You selfish bastard. I mean really I was simply being nice. You know doing the whole “small talk” thing. The question about your weekend was rhetorical. Next time just smile and nod. Geez. You should really be ashamed of yourself. Shame on you. Taking up my blog time. Anyway let’s move onto the things that really matter. Me.

Lately I’ve been finding myself addicted to figure drawing. Now when I say addicted I mean a healthy “Hey I enjoy this and I’m becoming a better artist as a result” kind of addiction. Not the unhealthy “Hey I’m sticking a used syringe into my tongue to obtain a temporary artificial high to escape the misery of my broken life” kind of addiction. Just sayin.

But I digress.

The pictures above and below were done this Saturday at the Charlotte Art League. The league has a figure drawing session every Saturday from 8:30am to 10:30 am and I have to say it is really well done. Since taking advantage of this great group I can see a definite improvement in my art. Figure drawing not only helps me understand the human form better but my observation skills have grown by leaps and bounds, which to me has been the greatest benefit.

Simply put, strong observational skills allow an artist to be faster and more competent. Understanding what you are looking at, translating onto paper and committing it to memory is what figure drawing should be all about.

Well either that or boobs.

Oh get your panties out of your ass, I’m just kidding. Or am I? Da da dum.

A Weird Spot & Figure Drawing Sessions

I’ll admit guys and girls (rawr), I’m in a weird state of mind right now. Long story short my dad is going to hospital today to find out if he has lung cancer. Fun fun. We had hoped to get the results yesterday but there was a miscommunication at the hospital. And by miscommunication I mean the hospital didn’t know what the hell they were talking about. Let’s hope this isn’t a ongoing trend.

So yeah, all of that really has me in a weird state of mind, even though my father and I are complete opposites in also every possible way, he’s still my dad so this really frikkin’ sucks. But as of right now no one knows anything for sure so hopefully the initial reaction to the CAT scan will end up simply being an overreaction.

I honestly don’t mean to dump on everyone or bring anyone down. I know that many of you out there have had loved ones go through a battle with cancer. It’s a scary thing to experience second-hand so I can only imagine how it must feel to be in that person’s shoes.

Oops. What was I saying about bringing everyone down? Good Lord why don’t I lighten to mood with some puppy mill horror stories or back alley abortions? I think the best thing to do is just too stay positive and strong for those who need it most. Ok, so happy thoughts, happy thoughts going to my happy place.

Hey I know wanna see some figure drawing sketches that I actually decided to scan for once? Huh? Do you? Of course you do!

The sketch above and the others below were all done at the Charlotte Art League, which hosts a weekly figure drawing session from 8:30 – 10:30 am. The cost is a mere $10. So if you are in the Charlotte area I highly suggest that you stop by and take advantage of this great class. All you need is $10, some paper and a pencil. But my weapons of choice are copic markers, microns, and a little bit of luck. I hope to see you there and until next time I will see you on the other side…whatever that means.
