Goodbye 2009! 2010 Here I come!

This is my final post of 2009. Weird. 2009 was kind of a fucked up year in many ways for me. I will spare you all the gory details but I will share a few “standout moments” in bullet format.

• Mom diagnosed with Cancer
• Mom survives Cancer
• Landed a teaching gig at the Charlotte Art League
• Landed a gig doing sketchcards for Marvel
• Setup a music studio for my lovely wife
• Wrecked on the freeway and was unharmed
• Evaded police yet again….ahem… I mean “had fun”
• Still unable to convice Scarlett Johansson that she loves me

I was going to do a best of 2009 list but fuck that, everyone and their mother is doing one of those so I’m sure you don’t need another from me. So instead I present my open letter to 2009 and 2010. Enjoy.

So 2009…you were bittersweet but mostly bitter because things didn’t quite work out the way we had orginally planned. Now I’ll admit some of it was my fault and some were simply circumstances beyond our control. But in the end I still blame you 2009. I know it’s not fair but it’s all part of being a year. You know? I mean you have to take the good with the bad and remember, its not personal, but it’s still your fault.

Anyway, 2009 I apologize if I come across as being harsh considering that I’m telling you this on your death bed and all but I just had to get this off my chest. I hope you understand.

Now 2010 I have to warn you; I have pretty high expectations. But I feel that you and I can work together and with just a little luck you could be the best year yet. Oh and before I forget I do have a couple of other things to ask of you. First, could you also be a good year for all my friends, fans and stalkers? And finally could you really suck a big one for everyone I don’t like?

Thanks 2010 now lets make this happen!

Seriously folks lets have a great 2010 and I will see you on the otherside…whatever that means.

Happy Freakin' New Year

Finally 2007 is over! I don’t know about the rest of you out there but 2007 sucked donkey dick then swallowed, in my opinion.

But alas a new year is upon us. I know I should just take it day by day and think each day is a chance to start over. But there is just something about the whole New Year thing. Of course it is also possible probable that the New Year resolution shit has brainwashed me but nonetheless it has worked.

I didn’t “ring in the new year” by getting drunk. I also didn’t watch New Year’s parties on television where sub par bands prove how much they suck live while the sheep constantly cheer them on in a drunken frenzy. I didn’t watch vapid, insipid celebrities attempt to count backwards from ten. I also didn’t spend it with friends. Not that I didn’t want to per say, but I had something I wanted to do more.

I wanted to do something for me, and that something was to draw. I know, I know you guys probably thought I would be the mastermind behind a jewel heist, using the New Year as a diversion. Or you probably thought that Brazilian models would be arriving at my estate in exotic cars while I had the mother of all parties. But it wasn’t like that at all.

So why would I choose this over everything else? Simple, because I wanted and needed to draw. I am not happy with my current state of affairs. I want to do more and I am tired of trying to extinguish this fire. Self-doubt, fear and laziness aren’t going to hold me back anymore. I am not saying I will be a professional illustrator anytime soon but for the first time I am going to try.

So my New Year’s resolution is simple. I am going to push and apply myself like never before in regards to my artwork.
