Heroes Comic Con 2010 – Artists you should know

I know. I know. And I don’t even want to hear about it either. I haven’t updated the blog, I haven’t called, I haven’t been around blah blah blah. Well guess what? You’re not the center of the universe ok? I am! So if I don’t feel like posting, I’m not going to post. Get it?

Oh God. Where are you going?

Look I’m sorry I really am. I’ve uh….been drinking a lot lately. Yeah that’s it I’ve been…Dammit. You’re not buying that. Ok how about this then? I’m really lazy.

Wow you believed that a lot quicker than I hoped you would. Well…ummm….ok then. But either way I’m back now so let’s just live in the moment shall we?

The purpose of this post is to whore out my friends instead of myself for once.  See I’m a giver not a taker.  It’s just the way I am.  I’m being so sweet right now you would get a cavity from just looking at me.

So what has brought on this need for me to promote those other than myself? Why Heroes Con 2010 of course. You see I really didn’t think that I was going to make it to the con this year but I ended up being able to after all. Although I was totally not ready for it, I still had an absolute blast. I’m not going to rehash some of the con stories from my Deviantart blog entry.

Instead I’m just going to focus on the artists I met there who maybe lucky enough to call me a friend. And who knows maybe in time I may even allow them to call me by my first name instead of Mr. McLellan. Again I just can’t help myself…I’m a giver.

Now without further delay, below is a short list of five artists from this year’s con that I think you should follow and quite frankly worship.

The Great Loston Wallce. Loston is one of the most talented artist I have ever met. Loston not only has the ability to draw in multiple styles. but is also a hell of a teacher who doesn’t mind sharing his knowledge.  Loston has worked for both DC and Marvel comics and is rumored to be able to bend spoons with his mind. Pretty incredible.

Clever Jeremy Dale who has an incredibly clean and polished style breathes life into his creations. Jeremy’s style is in the same vain as the late great Mike “Ringo” Wieringo but still uniquely his own. Jeremy is one to keep your eye own because his talents will not be ignored for long. Jeremy and his lovely wife Kelly (who is a pretty mean inker) are a dynamic duo of sorts and can be found kicking ass and taking names at most cons.

Sassy Danielle Soloud. Obviously Danielle is a great artist (she wouldn’t be on my this list if she wasn’t) but in my opinion Danielle’s greatest talent lies in her ability to inject a little of herself into her art. Danielle is an instantly likeable person and this bleeds into her art. Her characters possess a charm and quirkiness, which pulls the viewer into their world. Danielle has definitely found a nitch with her lively versions of popular characters but her own weekly webcomic “Life with Death” is where she really shines.

Workhorse Bryan Fowler is probably the most dedicated artist I’ve even known. Bryan loves the technique and the craft of creating artwork, he loves getting his hands dirty and is a sponge ready to absorb all that he can methods and techniques. Bryan’s persistence and voracious appetitite for understanding artistic processes and theories has made him a well-rounded artist set on the path of success.

True Original Henry Eudy is truly a free thinking, honest and funny artist whose style transports the viewer into another time and place. Henry’s art is unapologetic and transcends labels. He is indie without being pretentious, he is a social commentator without being preachy, he has an offbeat style that you can identify with, in short Henry is a indie artist whose humor is sure to win you over.

Ok folks that is my list of artists from this year’s Heroes convention 2010 that I think you should follow and worship. Each brings something unique to the table, yet I’m sure you will find that you will love each and everyone.

Or else.

Upcoming Headstatic Contest News!

Hey hey everyone! Although this will be a really short blog post it’s still worth reading. Why you ask? Simple…CONTEST TIME!

Next week I will be announcing all the cool details of my 2nd annual “Name my sketchbook contest!” I will also post the original illustration that will be awarded to the winner along with some other grand news. But in the meantime be sure to put on your thinking caps and give me a super clever awesome name because not only could you win an original illustration from yours truly but it could also make you famous.

Like really really famous.

Keeping with the headstatic tradition, whenever I don’t have any art to post, I resort to posting photos of my super secret celebrity girlfriend Scarlett Johansson. The photo above is of course from the upcoming Iron Man 2 film with hits theaters May 7th. Scarlett will be playing the role of the Black Widow, who is one of, if not my favorite Marvel femme fatale.*

Enjoy and be sure to check back soon for all the contest details.

*Editor’s note: this marks the first time Jason has mentioned that Scarlett will be playing the Black Widow without going into a geek seizure and passing out.

Ok guys and gals (rawr) it’s time for second installment of my Twitter sketch card giveaway contest! That’s right folks you have another chance to win a sketch card from yours truly. The last winner was located in Canada and received a nifty Elektra sketch card featured in this post.

Now I bet you are asking yourself “How the hell do I enter already?” Ok ok chill out or hold your horses or cool your jets or whatever it is you need to do to calm down. The instructions are listed below and are so easy it’s ridiculous. Ridiculous I say!

1. Login into Twitter (if you don’t have an account…well get one…duh)
2. Follow me http://twitter.com/manji675
3. Tweet the following message only once: @manji675 I want that sketch card!

Please be sure to include the @manji675 because otherwise I probably won’t see your tweet. And by probably I mean I won’t see it.

That’s it! How much easier could it be?

I will randomly select the winner by reaching into my magic hat of delight and will then send that person a direct message asking for their mailing address. Oh also as before if Scarlett Johansson enters (hey you never know) this contest will be void and she will win.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Good luck everyone!

Sketch Cards for the Marvel 70th Anniversary Set Part 1

It’s official! I can finally start posting the sketch cards I did for the Marvel 70th Anniversary edition set. As some of you already know this was my first venture into the sexy and intrigue-filled world of sketch cards and I have to say it was a real blast.

I also have to say I was completely amazed at how many times I had to reference the costumes of the characters. Good God! I mean sure I had no issue with my favorite Marvel characters (Daredevil, Black Widow, Elektra, Spidey, etc) but characters like Loki? I knew that his helmet had long curled horns on it and he wore yellow and green. That’s it.

Speaking of green, anyone else out there every notice how many frikkin’ Marvel characters are either green and purple or green and yellow? Anyway I’ll be posting more soon so stayed tuned.

Figure Drawing, Contest, & You

Greetings all, just thought I would drop in and upload a few sketches and studies. First up is a sketchbook doodle of a witch I did last night whilst (that’s right I said whilst) watching the History channel. I was going to make a joke and say it was an artistic interpretation of my gal with PMS, but wisely thought better of it. Or did I? Muwhahahahaha!

The other drawings below are studies from my figure drawing session at the Charlotte Art League over the weekend. I’m doing my best to do as much figure drawing as I can lately, because I’ve noticed that my confidence has been growing as a result. I’m a firm believer that confidence is one of the most important attributes that an artist can possess because if you approach a piece in a timid uncertain manner, the piece will reflect it.

I’m also a firm believer that everyone reading this should subscribe right now to this blog. You see one of the other most important things an artist can have is fans. Lots and lots of fans, preferably hot busty fans with lots of money.

Oh also don’t forget about my super awesome sketch card giveaway Twitter contest…uh…contest. Click here for full details and click here to follow me on Twitter, which is one of the contest requirements.
