Figure Drawing, Contest, & You

Greetings all, just thought I would drop in and upload a few sketches and studies. First up is a sketchbook doodle of a witch I did last night whilst (that’s right I said whilst) watching the History channel. I was going to make a joke and say it was an artistic interpretation of my gal with PMS, but wisely thought better of it. Or did I? Muwhahahahaha!

The other drawings below are studies from my figure drawing session at the Charlotte Art League over the weekend. I’m doing my best to do as much figure drawing as I can lately, because I’ve noticed that my confidence has been growing as a result. I’m a firm believer that confidence is one of the most important attributes that an artist can possess because if you approach a piece in a timid uncertain manner, the piece will reflect it.

I’m also a firm believer that everyone reading this should subscribe right now to this blog. You see one of the other most important things an artist can have is fans. Lots and lots of fans, preferably hot busty fans with lots of money.

Oh also don’t forget about my super awesome sketch card giveaway Twitter contest…uh…contest. Click here for full details and click here to follow me on Twitter, which is one of the contest requirements.

Sketch Card Giveaway Contest

Call the neighbors and wake the kids everyone because I have big news! I hope everyone is sitting down because to say that this is earth shattering would be an understatement. Over the next 3 weeks I will be giving away a sketch card drawn, inked and colored by yours truly! That’s right each week you will have a chance to win a sketch card.

Now I’m sure have a ton of questions, like how to enter, where to enter, why would I do this or how I maintain my silky smooth hair. Don’t worry I’ve got you covered. See the contest rules and sordid details below.

Why are you doing this?

Because I love you. I really love you. Its not for shameless promotion like others would have you believe. Its all for love.

How do I enter?

Its really super simple easy. Simply follow me on Twitter and tweet @manji675 I WANT THAT SKETCH CARD! Be sure to both follow me and tweet that phrase.

How is the winner selected?

After one week I will take names of all my followers who entered and randomly select a name from my magic hat of delight. The winner will then receive a direct message from me on Twitter. I will ask for their shipping information and if they are always this lucky.

Anything else I need to know?

That is really it. See I told you it was really super simple easy.   Just be sure to follow me on Twitter because once a winner is randomly selected I will send the winner a direct message to get their shipping information. Oh and if Scarlett Johansson enters the contest will be made void and she will win. End of story.

Also I will be doing this over the next 3 weeks so if you don’t win this time you will still have a couple more chances. Good luck to everyone!

Figure Drawing Session from 3-25-10

Greetings everyone! I recently discovered another figure group in Charlotte NC that I have been attending. This class is the third one that I have come across in the last couple months. Its nuts! I’m like a killer robot from the future whose sole purpose is the find sketch groups. I can’t be reasoned with and I can’t be stopped.

Anyway it was a really fun session, so if you get a chance be sure to drop in sometime. The session is from 6:30 to 9:00 pm every Thursday at The Arthouse 3103 Cullman Ave. Charlotte, NC. Hope to see you there.

Figure Drawing sketches – Feel the excitement

Greetings all! Hope everyone is doing well. Did everyone have a wonderful weekend? You did? Ok….uh huh. Yeah yeah that’s great, whatever. Look let’s not lose focus here people. Remember this blog is about yours truly. Not you. You selfish bastard. I mean really I was simply being nice. You know doing the whole “small talk” thing. The question about your weekend was rhetorical. Next time just smile and nod. Geez. You should really be ashamed of yourself. Shame on you. Taking up my blog time. Anyway let’s move onto the things that really matter. Me.

Lately I’ve been finding myself addicted to figure drawing. Now when I say addicted I mean a healthy “Hey I enjoy this and I’m becoming a better artist as a result” kind of addiction. Not the unhealthy “Hey I’m sticking a used syringe into my tongue to obtain a temporary artificial high to escape the misery of my broken life” kind of addiction. Just sayin.

But I digress.

The pictures above and below were done this Saturday at the Charlotte Art League. The league has a figure drawing session every Saturday from 8:30am to 10:30 am and I have to say it is really well done. Since taking advantage of this great group I can see a definite improvement in my art. Figure drawing not only helps me understand the human form better but my observation skills have grown by leaps and bounds, which to me has been the greatest benefit.

Simply put, strong observational skills allow an artist to be faster and more competent. Understanding what you are looking at, translating onto paper and committing it to memory is what figure drawing should be all about.

Well either that or boobs.

Oh get your panties out of your ass, I’m just kidding. Or am I? Da da dum.

Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird

According to my stuffed bunny Stuart, everyone reading my blog knows it’s the most bestest blog ever! It’s a sexy thrill ride, full of life-altering wisdom, intrigue, and motivational tales of success. Now, I must admit that Stuart is very humble. He’s known for his subtle nature and modesty. So it’s safe to say that he is down playing the impact and importance of this blog on all of humanity, now and for generations to come.

Now onto my actual point, yes there is one.

I know that most of you drop in to catch up on my latest endeavors in art and life. I always try and keep it informative, light-hearted and of course sexy. But every now and then I’ll dump some personal stuff here that isn’t all that fun. A perfect example of something that “isn’t all that fun” was the announcement a few days ago that my father may have lung cancer. Well to get to the straight to the point – he does.

Now before everyone starts getting all bent out of shape and emotional there is good news. The doctors feel confident that it’s operable. The cancer was caught early and has not spread and is only in one lung. The prognosis is extremely favorable. I’m both relived and thrilled with the news and to be honest I’m also shocked. I’m shocked because long story short my dad isn’t the most responsible person ever and RARELY goes to the doctor. And by rarely I mean never. It’s some sort of blessing that he happened to get an X-Ray last a couple weeks back, which alerted the doctors that something may be wrong. Regardless of the hows, whats or whys the bottom line is that everything looks like it will work out just fine.

I want to thank everyone for your calls, emails and prayers. It really means a lot. Not as much as… say money or shiny cool things, but still it means a lot. Thank all.
