I had my first experience with the Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art school last month. I know I know the name is about as cool as your dad dancing but the concept of the group is actually great. In a nutshell it’s a figure drawing group that focuses on unique themes and models and pops up in practically every state in the US. The Dr. Sketchy I went to was at StorySlam! in Charlotte, NC and had a Mardi Gras theme, along with contests and prizes. Here are a few photos from their facebook page.
The contests were simple and fun. For instance, the rules of one contest was that everyone had to draw with their non-dominant hand and in another people simply voted on the best piece out of a 20 minute session. The winners were selected by either by one person or by everyone voting on their favorite piece. I won 2 of the 3 contests and my prizes consisted of a gift certificate to a local restaurant and a bottle of wine. Above is one of the pieces I did for Dr. Sketchy. It wasn’t one of the winners but it’s the only picture I have of anything I did that night.
My friend Bryan Fowler won the other contest and also received a bottle of wine. Looking back on it I should have gloated after winning the third and final contest and asked Bryan if he wanted any cheese with his whine. Get it? Whine? You know because he had a bottle of….Dammit that’s punny and I don’t care what you say.
The group is ongoing and will meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month with a different theme each time. Pretty cool. I have listed the necessary links below so that you guys and read about both Dr. Sketchy and StorySlam! By the way if any of you guys are in the Charlotte area I hope to see you at the next Dr. Sketchy event which will be on Tuesday March 9th from 7 to 10 pm.
Oh yeah almost forgot. While I was there I was also asked if I wanted to start teaching figure drawing at StorySlam! They are still in the early stages but I did tell them that I would be interested in trying it out for a while. If that goes through that would mean I would be teaching at both the Charlotte Art League and StorySlam! What the hell right? Who would have ever thought that I would be teaching much less teaching at two different spots?
I know that it has been far too long since my last post. You know it’s funny how many times I have sat down to write a blog post only to become distracted or just lose my initiative to write a post. If that sounds like the most ridiculous lazy-ass excuse in the world it’s probably because it is. I simply don’t know what has been up with me lately. I’ve been in a big art slump and a few other stupid things going on so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it. Actually no, I…I think that’s it. Nothing more to say about that really so enough bitching and moaning.
I will be posting individual posts over the next few days to get everyone caught up on what’s going on with my awesome bad self. Again sorry for the lack of updates but like I said just been in a funk lately but the only way out is through I suppose. Right?
As usual for non-art related updates on my blog above is a photo of the lovely Scarlett Johansson who serves as some sort of sexy mascot for my blog. And it would seem that like you, she isn’t too pleased with my bitching and lack of blog posts.

This is my final post of 2009. Weird. 2009 was kind of a fucked up year in many ways for me. I will spare you all the gory details but I will share a few “standout moments” in bullet format.
Mom diagnosed with Cancer
Mom survives Cancer
Landed a teaching gig at the Charlotte Art League
Landed a gig doing sketchcards for Marvel
Setup a music studio for my lovely wife
Wrecked on the freeway and was unharmed
Evaded police yet again….ahem… I mean “had fun”
Still unable to convice Scarlett Johansson that she loves me
I was going to do a best of 2009 list but fuck that, everyone and their mother is doing one of those so I’m sure you don’t need another from me. So instead I present my open letter to 2009 and 2010. Enjoy.
So 2009…you were bittersweet but mostly bitter because things didn’t quite work out the way we had orginally planned. Now I’ll admit some of it was my fault and some were simply circumstances beyond our control. But in the end I still blame you 2009. I know it’s not fair but it’s all part of being a year. You know? I mean you have to take the good with the bad and remember, its not personal, but it’s still your fault.
Anyway, 2009 I apologize if I come across as being harsh considering that I’m telling you this on your death bed and all but I just had to get this off my chest. I hope you understand.
Now 2010 I have to warn you; I have pretty high expectations. But I feel that you and I can work together and with just a little luck you could be the best year yet. Oh and before I forget I do have a couple of other things to ask of you. First, could you also be a good year for all my friends, fans and stalkers? And finally could you really suck a big one for everyone I don’t like?
Thanks 2010 now lets make this happen!
Seriously folks lets have a great 2010 and I will see you on the otherside…whatever that means.

Merry Christmas everyone! Above is a piece I did for a forum I frequent and I thought it would also make a good holiday piece to ring in Christmas. I have never drawn Harley Quinn before and overall I’m happy with this piece. There is still a lot of rendering to go but I’m calling it done for now because I have a few other projects on the horizon that I need to complete.
Just to let everyone know I’ll be kicking off the new year with a contest and there are two commissions that I’m sending out very soon to two very special fans. I appreciate your patience and I’m sure you will find it worth your wait.
I guess that does it for this post. Until next time loyal readers.

Below I have posted the new Red Band trailer for the upcoming Kick Ass movie due out in April 2010. Hey good thing I added the “2010″ right? Anyway I can’t make up my mind on whether this will be any good or not. I mean sure it looks like a fun movie with a ton of “kickass” scenes. But it’s also an eleven year old girl doing it. She has no powers (cleverly stated in the trailer) yet she goes through henchmen quicker than 3 day old Taco Bell goes through a fat kid named Ralph. Plus let’s not forget the Nic Cage factor. How does forehead boy keep getting roles? Seriously? Anyway check the out the trailer and let me know what you think.
